Polyvinyl alcohol is used in water treatment formulations coatings and environmental processing.

Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) with approximately 98% hydrolyzed grade is available from several suppliers, primarily for laboratory and industrial applications. This specific grade is often referred to as “fully hydrolyzed”.

Hydrolysis Level: Typically 98.0%-99.0% hydrolyzed.
Physical Form: Odorless, white to cream-colored granular powder or crystals.
Solubility: Soluble in water, although higher hydrolysis grades require more energy (e.g., warm water) to dissolve completely due to their increased crystallinity.
Molecular Weight (MW): Available in various molecular weights, which affects solution viscosity. Common ranges include low molecular weight (approx. 13,000-23,000 or 31,000-50,000) and high molecular weight (approx. 85,000-124,000).
Key Properties: Excellent film-forming ability, strong adhesion, chemical resistance, and biocompatibility.

Adhesives and Binders: Acts as a water-soluble adhesive in the paper, textile, and wood industries.
Pharmaceutical/Biomedical: Used in drug delivery systems, wound dressings, and contact lens materials due to its biocompatibility.
Packaging: Used for making biodegradable and water-soluble films.
Laboratory/Research: Utilized as a protective colloid in polymerization processes, a fixative for specimen collection, and in various cell culture applications.
