Ferromanganese is a ferro alloy used as a deoxidizer and alloying element in steel production.

Ferromanganese is a critical ferroalloy composed primarily of iron and manganese extensively used in steelmaking as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and alloying agent. It enhances steel’s strength, hardenability, and abrasion resistance. Major types include high-carbon, medium-carbon, and low-carbon grades, typically produced via smelting manganese ore in blast or electric arc furnaces. 

Key Characteristics and Uses: 
Steel Production: Essential for adding manganese to stainless, structural, and wear-resistant steels, aiding in the stabilization of the austenite phase.
Refining Agent: Functions as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer, removing oxygen and sulfur impurities from molten steel.
Grades:

High Carbon (HC) FeMn: Contains 70–80% Mn and 6–8% C, widely used in carbon steel and cast iron.
Medium/Low Carbon (MC/LC) FeMn: Used for special steel production where carbon levels must be controlled.

Physical Appearance: Often has a dense, silvery-grey, metallic, and sometimes mirror-like, appearance.
Origin: Produced by smelting manganese ore, commonly in submerged arc furnaces or blast furnaces.
