Corn gluten meal is a valuable, high-protein (typically around 60% crude protein) and high-energy ingredient in animal feed formulations.
Protein and Energy Source: It provides a concentrated source of protein and energy for livestock such as poultry, pigs, cattle, and fish.
Amino Acid Supplementation: It is an excellent source of the amino acids methionine and cysteine, but low in lysine and tryptophan, and is typically combined with other protein sources like soybean or fish meal to create a balanced diet.
Pigmentation: Its high content of natural yellow pigments (xanthophylls) helps produce the desired yellow coloration in poultry skin and egg yolks, which is a desirable trait in some markets.

Natural Herbicide and Fertilizer

Pre-Emergent Weed Control: The natural peptides in CGM work as a pre-emergent herbicide by inhibiting root development in weed seeds as they germinate. The seeds may sprout, but without roots, they dry up and die. It is effective on annual weeds like crabgrass, dandelions, and pigweed.
Fertilizer: CGM typically contains 9% to 10% nitrogen by weight, acting as a slow-release natural fertilizer that promotes a thicker, healthier lawn that can better compete with weeds naturally.
Application: For best results as an herbicide, it should be applied evenly before weed seeds germinate (typically early spring and late summer) at a rate of around 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
Safety: It is safe to use around children and pets and is an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic chemicals.
Other Uses
Food Flavorings: Corn gluten is used in the manufacture of hydrolyzed vegetable protein, a common food flavoring.
Rodenticide: A commercial formulation of pure corn gluten meal can be used as the active ingredient in rodenticides, causing dehydration when ingested.
