Manganese Flakes
Manganese flakes are used in steelmaking and alloy production.
Electrolytic Manganese Flakes (EMM) are high-purity (99.7%–99.9%) silvery-gray, brittle metal pieces produced via electrolysis. Primarily used as a critical additive in steelmaking and specialized alloys, they enhance strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. They are also used in battery technology and welding materials.
Key Characteristics and Uses:
Production: Extracted from manganese-containing solutions using electrolysis, resulting in a bright, shiny, and sometimes brown-tinted appearance.
Steel Industry: Used to improve tensile strength and wear resistance in steel, stainless steel, and manganese steel alloys.
Aluminum Industry: Added to 3000-series aluminum alloys to improve mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, particularly for beverage cans.
High-Purity Grades: Specialized types, such as low-oxygen (LO) or low-hydrogen (LH) flakes, are used for vacuum induction melting.
Other Applications: Used in welding rod flux mixtures and in the production of electronic materials.
Electrolytic manganese flakes are typically produced in China and South Africa.
