Common Laboratory Uses
Solvent: Effectively dissolves many organic compounds, including oils, resins, and rubber.
Precursor: Used in the synthesis of other chemicals, such as Toluene Diisocyanate (for polyurethanes) and TNT.
Specialised Tasks: Used as a fullerene indicator, a coolant in specific reactor loops, and to extract haemoglobin in biochemistry.

Toluene AR is a hazardous material requiring strict safety protocols:
Hazards: Highly flammable liquid and vapour (H225). It is suspected of damaging the unborn child (H361d) and may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways (H304).
Toxicity: Can cause drowsiness, dizziness (H336), and skin irritation (H315). Long-term exposure can damage the nervous system.
Storage: Must be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks, or open flames.
Disposal: Should be handled by a licensed disposal company; it must not be poured down the drain as it is toxic to aquatic life.
