Lead Scrap
Lead scrap is supplied for recycling and secondary metal production.
Common Types and Grades
Lead scrap is categorized by its purity and source, which directly impacts its market value:
Soft Lead (ISRI “RACKS”): The most valuable grade, consisting of clean, pure lead free of contaminants. It is often sourced from cable sheaths and plumbing.
Mixed Hard/Soft Lead (ISRI “RADIO”): Includes lead solids like pipes, sheets, and pellets; usually requires further purification.
Lead-Acid Batteries: The most common source of scrap lead (approx. 85% of global supply). These are typically sold as “whole” units (ISRI “RAINS” for dry, “RINK” for wet).
Wheel Weights (ISRI “ROPES”): Found on vehicle rims, these are highly desirable for manufacturers due to their high lead content (around 95%).
