Whey Protein Concentrate
Whey protein concentrate is used in food supplements sports nutrition and functional foods.
Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) is a high-quality, fast-absorbing protein source derived from milk, typically containing 70–80% protein along with small amounts of fat and lactose. It is a complete protein packed with all nine essential amino acids and BCAAs, making it ideal for muscle growth, post-workout recovery, and increasing daily protein intake.
Key Aspects of Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC):
Nutritional Composition: WPC contains 80% amino acid concentration, meaning 80g of pure protein per 100g of powder. It is rich in Leucine, which promotes muscle protein synthesis.
Benefits: It helps to build/maintain lean muscle, speeds up post-workout recovery, and supports satiety for weight management.
Production: It is a byproduct of the cheesemaking process, where liquid whey is separated, filtered, and dried into powder.
Usage: It is commonly used in shakes, smoothies, and protein bars. A typical dosage is 1 scoop (approx. 30g) mixed with 150-200ml of water or milk.
Variants: Often available in unflavoured form (like Lifestyle Food 500g) or various flavours in brands such as NPL, Evox, and USN.
WPC differs from whey isolate in that it is less processed, retaining more beneficial, naturally occurring nutrients from milk while having slightly higher, though still low, lactose and fat levels.
