Description

Ferric chloride hexahydrate is used in water treatment chemical manufacturing and laboratory analysis.

It is the most common hydrated form of iron(III) chloride and is highly deliquescent, meaning it readily absorbs moisture from the air to form a reddish-brown liquid.

Key Characteristics
Appearance: Distinctive orange-brown or brownish-yellow crystals or lumps.
Melting Point: Notably low at approximately 37°C (99°F).
Solubility: Highly soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone. Aqueous solutions are strongly acidic.
Chemical Role: Acts as a Lewis acid and a mild oxidizing agent.
