Description

Calcium hypochlorite CP is supplied for industrial water treatment sanitation and bleaching applications.

Calcium Hypochlorite CP (Chemically Pure) is a white or yellowish-white granular compound widely used as a potent disinfectant, sanitizer, and oxidizing agent, particularly in pool maintenance (65-70% active chlorine). It is highly effective against bacteria and viruses, serving as a key water treatment chemical for sanitizing swimming pools and drinking water.
Key Characteristics and Hazards:
Properties: Strong chlorine odor, acts as an oxidizer, and is relatively stable in solid form compared to other hypochlorites.
Safety: Classified as a dangerous oxidizer (H272) that can intensify fire, cause severe skin burns/eye damage (H314), and is very toxic to aquatic life (H400).
Reactivity: Decomposes in water or heat, releasing chlorine; it must be stored away from acids, ammonia, and organic materials.
Usage: Commonly used for shocking pools, treating wastewater, and disinfecting surfaces.
