Calcium Aluminum (Ca-Al) metal is

a specialized, lightweight alloy primarily used for deoxidation and desulfurization in steelmaking, as well as in aerospace, automotive, and high-performance casting applications. Key forms include 60/40 to 80/20 Ca/Al ratios, produced as ingot, shot, or wire. It is highly reactive with moisture. 

Key Properties and Characteristics 
Composition: Often found in ratios like 60/40, 70/30, 80/20, and 90/10 Ca/Al.
Reactivity: The metal is highly active and can form a black coating of nitride and oxide upon exposure to air. It reacts with moisture, which can cause heat.
Microstructure: Forms a stable and with aluminum.
Physical Form: Available as bar, ingot, ribbon, wire, shot, sheet, and powder. 

Primary Applications 
Steel/Iron Production: Used as a deoxidizing, desulfurizing, and decarburizing agent.
Aluminum Alloys: Acts as a wetting agent in metal matrix composites and improves the cutting performance of aluminum alloys.
High-Performance Engineering: Utilized in aerospace, automotive, and electronics for its unique strength-to-weight properties. 

Production Methods 
Manufacturing: Produced by adding aluminum to molten calcium under an inert atmosphere at temperatures ranging from 550°C to 1100°C.
Forms: The resulting material can be processed via melt atomization or cast, crushed, and ground into powder.
