Description

Methylene chloride is supplied for solvent extraction degreasing and industrial processing.

Methylene chloride, also known as dichloromethane (DCM), is a clear, volatile liquid with a sweet, chloroform-like odour. It is widely used as an industrial solvent and a potent paint stripper.

Key Characteristics & Uses
Industrial Applications: It is a critical solvent in pharmaceutical manufacturing, metal cleaning, and polycarbonate resin production.
Adhesives: Used for solvent welding of plastics like acrylic and polycarbonate.
Food Industry: Historically used to decaffeinate coffee and tea, and to extract spices.
Physical Properties: It has a low boiling point (approx. 40°C), making it useful in heat engines like the “drinking bird” toy.
