Description

Sodium chromate is supplied for corrosion inhibition pigments and industrial chemical applications.

Despite its industrial value, sodium chromate is subject to strict regulatory oversight due to its hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] content. Unlike the trivalent form of chromium found in nutritional supplements, hexavalent chromium is highly toxic.
Long-term exposure, particularly through the inhalation of dust or fumes, is a known cause of respiratory cancers. Furthermore, it is a potent environmental pollutant; because it is highly soluble in water, spills can lead to widespread groundwater contamination, posing a severe threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health.
