Amyl acetate (or pentyl acetate) is a colorless organic ester known for its strong, fruity scent, resembling bananas and pears, used widely as a flavoring, fragrance, and solvent in paints/lacquers, and even as an attractant for fruit flies. Chemically, it’s an ester of acetic acid and amyl alcohol (pentanol), with the formula C₇H₁₄O₂. It’s flammable and can cause eye, skin, and respiratory irritation at high concentrations, requiring careful handling with proper PPE.

Odor & Flavor: Strong banana/apple/pear aroma, used in food flavorings, perfumes, and as a test odorant in smell studies.
Solvent: Used in paints, lacquers, and even in penicillin preparation.
