Crude Soybean Oil
Crude soybean oil is an unrefined, pale yellow vegetable oil extracted from soybean seeds via pressing or solvent extraction, serving as a primary raw material for edible oil refining, biodiesel production, and high-energy animal feed. It is rich in phospholipids, tocopherols (Vitamin E), and essential fatty acids, requiring degumming to remove impurities before further processing.
Key Aspects of Crude Soybean Oil
Production & Properties: Major global producers include the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, and China. It is often traded as “Crude Degummed Soybean Oil” (CDSO), which has a max 1.5% free fatty acids (FFA), 0.3% moisture/impurities, and a characteristic soybean aroma.
Primary Uses:
Refining: The main source for edible soybean oil, margarine, and vegetable fats after hydrogenation and refining.
Animal Feed: Highly valued for high-energy feed formulations for poultry, pigs, and cattle.
Industrial Applications: Used in the production of biodiesel, paints, inks, varnishes, and as a dust controller in grain silos.
Nutritional Components: Contains significant levels of lecithin (phosphatides), phytosterols, and tocopherols.
Storage & Shelf Life: Typically has a shelf life of 12 months, stored in cool, dry conditions away from light.
