Pharmaceuticals: Found in toothpastes (e.g., Sensodyne) to desensitise tooth nerves and treat hypersensitivity.
Food Industry: Used as a preservative and curing agent (E252) in meats like bacon and ham to prevent bacterial growth.
Pyrotechnics: Acts as a key oxidizer in gunpowder, fireworks, and rocket propellants.

Health Risks: Dust can irritate eyes, skin, and the respiratory tract. High-level exposure can cause methemoglobinemia, interfering with the blood’s ability to carry oxygen.
