Laboratory Testing: They are the primary reagent in the Copper Turnings Test to identify nitrate ions; when heated with concentrated sulfuric acid, they produce characteristic brown nitrogen dioxide gas.
Chemical Synthesis: Used as a catalyst in “click chemistry” (azide-alkyne cycloaddition) and for synthesizing inorganic salts or organometallic complexes.
Industrial Use: Employed in the preparation of electrolytes for all-copper hybrid flow batteries and as a degassed reagent in elemental analysis.
Scrap & Recycling: In manufacturing, clean copper turnings scrap is a traded commodity, often recycled into new copper products.
